ARTISTS ACTION CHART

1. Define Your Identity

You must be able to define who you are as an artist, visually and musically. This is your professional identity (your brand). It’s what tells your fans that you are artist “A”, not artist “B”. It must be recognizable, clear, and without doubt.

2. Perfect Your Craft

Whatever it is that you do, guitar, bass, drums, engineer, sing...WATER BOY! Do it well, don’t take short cuts. Gain the knowledge you need to master your craft. The better you are at whatever you do, the more demand you create for yourself.

3. Define Your Personal Success

How do you define success for you? Do you want to $25,000 per year, or $80,000 per year? Know the level of success you want to achieve. Be realistic, ask your self hardcore questions. How do you plan to achieve your success regardless of the level you have chosen?

4. Discipline

Having the inner strength and ability to stay focused and systematic as you plan and execute your vision.

5. Establish A Business Plan

Sit down with your team or by yourself and decide what it is you want to do and how you plan to go about doing it. Make it into a plan of business (write it down). Set goals and benchmarks. Decide how many years it will take you to execute your business, 3, 5 or maybe 10 years. Include how much money it will take, and who are the key players on your team. Having a solid business plan is your road map to success, without it, you will get lost on the way!

6. Invest In Yourself

Spiritually, Emotionally, Personally, Artistically, Financially and Business wise. Be and live in harmony as often as you can!

7. Communication Skills

Understand fully music industry and business language and terms. Know how to communicate with others fluently. Work on typing skills and penmanship to craft more professional letters and emails. Acquire and use phone etiquette, make and return phone calls promptly. Practice being a good listener, speak clearly and directly during conversations. Miscommunications lead to misunderstandings, the two biggest problems facing mankind globally.

8. Build a Creative and Business Community

Surround yourself with creative and business people. Know that whatever your business plan is, you cannot achieve it alone. Invite people into your community that are smarter than you. Include those who see and understand your vision and even those who might not fully get it but still support you. Maintain good relationships with all those in the community.

9. Honor Your Commitments

If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Walk the walk, stop talking the talk! If you make the commitment, follow through until it’s completed.

10. Perseverance

The person that decides the night before to “give up” will never know if the next morning is the beginning of the first day of your success! Never Give UP!
